The Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) proposed the relocation of a segment of the existing 36-inch-in-diameter Borinquen Potable Water Transmission Pipeline (BPWTP), as part of the infrastructure improvement projects required in conjunction with the dredging and channeling of the Caño Martín Peña (CMP) for the Caño Martín Peña Ecosystem Restoration Project (CMP-ERP). Since the existing pipeline crosses the CMP at an elevation higher than the proposed depth of the CMP after the dredge, it needed to be deepened. Connection and isolation points for the existing pipeline, across CMP, are provided through two existing valves located at the intersection of San José Street with Gardel Street to the south of the Stop 27 community, the Hato Rey Central Ward, and at Argentina Street on Marina Community, Santurce Ward in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The new segment of the pipe will be 42 inches (in.) in diameter to provide additional capacity to the line. This project will benefit approximately 24,275 families in the municipality of San Juan and will be financed with PRASA funds at a cost of $5,127,317.22.
